“What is a PLC and what can you do with it?” was just one of the fascinating questions that F.EE training manager Thomas Schmid was able to discuss together with interested pupils at the end of the three-day programming workshop. The basis for such a programmable controller (PLC) was explained using illustrative examples and tasks that were completed in a team on the school laptops, alongside many other subjects across the sphere of the world of work of an electronic technician and specialists in automation technology.

The 26-strong class, accompanied by their subject teacher Jonas Leutenberger, began the course on the Monday with a detailed and fascinating tour of the company, which took the pupils through the halls of the various departments of the company group, and into the F.EE training centre for electrical and information technology. The practical course itself then took place every afternoon from Tuesday to Thursday in the modern physics classrooms in the middle school. Work took place with the Siemens software “LOGO”.

The aim was to provide the pupils with an insight into the world of automation technology and PLC programming, and this was impressively achieved. “Furthermore, this is a valuable supplement to the normal technical lessons”, enthused to class teacher Leutenberger. At the end of the programme the pupils received gifts and certificates of participation, which are certain to make a good impression in their application folders. Irene Träxler, head teacher of the middle school, also had words of gratitude for the long-term commitment of F.EE and Thomas Schmid, and expressed sincere thanks on behalf of the school. A new edition of the course is already planned for the next school year.
